Police Are Searching for Hit and Run Driver After the Death of Podcaster

Mat George, the co-host of the popular “She Rates Dogs” podcast, has passed away following getting hit by a car on early Saturday morning. Police are still looking for the driver of what witnesses described as a white BMW.

The Los Angeles Police Department stated that George was hit in a hit-and-run in the Beverly Grove area of Los Angeles around 2:20 a.m. while walking in an unmarked crosswalk. He was pronounced dead at the scene. George was only 26.

“I would rather you guys here [sic] this from me than a news article. Mat was killed in a hit and run,” his co-host Michaela Okland said on social media. “I don’t really have any other words right now. I wish I could contact everybody who knows him personally but the news is already out and I just can’t do it right now.”

Over 100 pedestrians are killed each year by being struck by vehicles in the Los Angeles area. This is due to the high volume of both cars and pedestrians. Any pedestrian injury lawyer in Los Angeles can tell you that walking at night and being under the influence of alcohol can greatly increase the risk of getting hit by a car.

The Los Angeles Police Department is offering a $50,000 reward for information on the driver of the white BMW who fled the scene after running over George. They likely fled the scene because they were driving under the influence and thought they could get away with their reckless actions.

Committing a hit-and-run is going to result in a lot more charges than just a fatal pedestrian accident. Once the police find whoever did this, they are going to be facing criminal charges along with a slew of fines.

It’s unclear if George’s family is going to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver once they are located. Our accident injury lawyers in Los Angeles strongly encourage them to since they were so reckless as to hit a pedestrian and so calloused as to leave the scene and leave the family needing answers.

If anyone in the LA area saw a white BMW with damage to its front, they are encouraged to reach out to the police at 213-473-0234. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call the LA Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477) or visit lacrimestoppers.org.
